A Genesis of Sorts

Genesis 1:1 " In the beginning God..."

Did you know that Genesis means "beginning"?  What a fitting name for a book that begins before time can take notice. It doesn't get much more "beginning" than that. But what was there at the beginning? I mean, why is there even a record of this moment that pre-dates anything else? There is only one answer: God. That's it. Let that sink in for a moment. God existed before the earth. God existed before light. God even existed before time. And it's not until God speaks, do we see anything else come into existence. And what can be said of the things God Himself creates in the proceeding verses? They were good.

The Intown Atlanta church is a new local church. It began about two months ago and we have been meeting together with about ten people on average. Yep, I said ten. We meet in a small space and we don't have a lot of the resources, history, prestige, or the "wow" factor many other churches have. But what better way to have it? This our genesis. And like the Genesis of old, there may not be a lot of stuff you can see with your eyes, but that's okay. Just like that genesis, God is here. And just like that Genesis, we are listening to God (Romans 10:17) as He speaks (Acts 2:38) His creations into existence (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our prayer and expectation is that because God has done this for us, we too will be found to be "good" (Genesis 1:4, 12, 18, 21, 25).

Finally, just like in the book of Genesis, we want God to be the One creating, and not anyone or anything else (2 Timothy 4:3-4). So, the goal of the Intown Atlanta church, is to do everything we can to make sure that we are exactly what God intended for His church to be and nothing less (1 Timothy 3:15)
