Resilient Faith

Matthew 14:22-33 relates the account of Jesus defying physics and walking on water. His disciples were caught up in a storm on the lake and Jesus came to them, calming them, instructing them to take courage and to not be afraid. Of course, Peter not only took Jesus at his word, but went one step further, requesting to approach Jesus on the surface of the water. Peter starts off with confidence, then falters and begins to sink.

Peter had given himself over to Jesus. He put control of his fate into Jesus’ hands--then his faith begins to waiver. Fortunately, Peter had the spiritual insight to ask for Jesus’ help in his time of fear and stress.

Many lessons can be taken from this discourse. One that stands out though, is about faith that at times might be tested, is not vanquished, and God willing, becomes all the more resilient.
