Putting Genuine Love into Action
We‘ve looked at the way Paul uses love in Romans and specifically when he says “let love be genuine.” This love we are to have is from God and only from God. There is also a real difference in the love that comes natural for us and this genuine, real love a disciple is to have. So what does this love look like in action?
Romans 13 and 14 have some great examples of how we should be putting love into action. This genuine love allows us to view earthly authorities, even government, as being God appointed (Romans 13:2). I say “even” government, but according to this text I should say especially government. Love changes our view of those over us in every sort of earthly authority. It does not mean that faith or truth should be compromised, nor should spreading the gospel be tempered because of any authority. Whatever they are owed is what I should give those individuals (13:7)…
